2021 Regional EMS Awards

Recently, the Peninsulas EMS Council announced a number of regional awards. Included in those awards were four of which that had direct connections to York County.

They were:

  • Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a Physician (Gaylord W. Ray, M.D. Award) – Cara-Marie Jackson, D.O., Operational Medical Director for York County Department of Fire and Life Safety and emergency department physician for Riverside Regional Medical Center
  • Innovation Excellence in EMS – Greater Williamsburg COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic (City of Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, William & Mary, Virginia Department of Health Peninsula Health District)

Special Recognition 

  • Operation Vaccinate Virginia Peninsula – Virginia Department of Health Hampton/Peninsula Health District, Riverside Health System, Sentara Healthcare, Bon Secours Mercy Health, City of Hampton, City of Newport News, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, James City County, York County
  • COVID-19 Response, Community Vaccination Clinic – York Senior Center, York County 

PEMS Awards

Earlier this week, the Peninsulas EMS Council presented three of those awards in York County at Fire Station #1 in Grafton.

Among them:

York County Department of Fire and Life Safety’s Operational Medical Director—Cara-Marie Jackson was presented the award for Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a Physician (Gaylord W. Ray, M.D. Award). While Dr. Jackson works as an Emergency Department Physician at Riverside Regional Medical Center, York County is fortunate to have someone with her passion for EMS and patient care as well as her extraordinary medical knowledge guiding the provision of emergency medical services for our citizens and visitors.   

The York County Senior Center was presented a special recognition award for operating a COVID-19 Response, Community Vaccination Clinic  and the extraordinary efforts of providing facility space and overall support in the provision of the COVID-19 vaccine to thousands of York County citizens as well as others from across the Peninsula 

York County was also presented another special recognition award for its role in Operation Vaccinate Virginia Peninsula. This unique cooperative initiative among all of the Peninsula localities, the Hampton/Peninsula Health District and each of the major hospital systems that serve the Peninsula resulted in the effective provision of COVID-19 vaccines across the entire Virginia Peninsula.
