AARP Free Tax Service
Through Tuesday, April 17 - Tax preparation for seniors is being provided again this year at the Senior Center and will continue through Tuesday, April 17. Assistance will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through this period. This service is offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority for those 60 and above.
1. Participants should bring last year’s tax returns and all current tax information.
St. Patrick’s Day Bingo
Friday, March 9, at 1 pm - Come try your hand in a friendly game of St. Patrick’s Day Bingo with members of Preceptor Beta Gamma service sorority. Free, fun, and great prizes! Please sign up by March 7, or until space is filled.
AARP Driver Safety Program
Monday, March 12, and Tuesday, March 13 - Call to see if there is space available for this popular, two-day safety training from AARP. This regular program at the Senior Center is designed for drivers age 50 or better. This session will take place on Monday, March 12, from 12:30-4:45 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 13, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cost for the two-day program is $15 for members of AARP and $20 for non-members. Fees should be paid by check and made out to AARP. Class registration may be made in person at the Senior Center, by mail, or by calling 890-3444. NOTES: AARP membership, which cannot be processed the day of a class, is not required for class registration. There is no “behind the wheel” driving performed in this program. Drivers age 55 or better must attend both days of classes in a session to receive the state mandated three-year automobile insurance reduction. Many insurance companies are giving insurance reductions to drivers age 50+ with the same attendance requirements. Those less than age 55 should check with their insurance company to see if they are entitled to the three-year insurance reduction.
Monday, March 12, at 10 am - Come create a beautifully elevated flower pot with Kathy Wahl just in time for spring. The flower pot will be approximately 2 by 5 inches with moss and flowers sprawling down into a terracotta saucer. Your creation makes a great gift for yourself or a friend. Please register no later than March 8, or until space is filled so we have adequate materials on hand. Space is limited!
Thursday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon - Make beautiful cards for St. Patrick’s Day or Easter with Nancy Beaton. There will be a variety of materials on hand to personalize your creations. Please limit to 4 cards. Please sign up at the front desk by March 13.
March Birthday Bash
Friday, March 16, at 1 p.m. - In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, Musician Lynn Trott will perform a medley of English, Scottish, and Irish songs. Participants are invited to dance and sing-a-long. As an additional treat, Ms. Trott will play the viola de gamba. Wear your green and remember…you do not have to be celebrating a birthday to join in on the fun! Please sign up at the front desk.
Tax Relief & Filing Assistance for the Elderly and/or Disabled
Wednesday, March 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. - Staff from the office of the York County Commissioner of the Revenue will be available to offer assistance with completing the application for this tax relief program available to real estate homeowners residing in York County. To be eligible, applicant must: 1) be at least 65 years old or permanently and totally disabled; and, 2) must also be a York County homeowner who resides in the dwelling. Applications must be filed by April 1. Call the Senior Center at 890-3444 to sign up.
Culture Day, “The Irish in Wartime,”
Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. - Chris Garcia, Education Coordinator for the Virginia War Museum, will give an informative presentation with pictures and artifacts on notable Irish-Americans who have served in the military.

WAR Stories & Pizza
Monday, March 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. - This is a casual time for veterans to meet together and share stories from serving in the military while enjoying some free pizza. Senior Center Board member and U.S. Army veteran Buck Rodgers will facilitate this program. Advance sign-up is required at the front desk since space is limited.
