Homeschool Huddle: Book Club & Poetry Month

It's April so it is time for some spring reading!In this month's homeschool huddle we share information about our book club and activities for Nat

This month's Booklastic books are...Geronimo Stilton for K-2nd, and Waylong! One Awesome Thing by Sara Pennypacker for our 3rd to 5th graders. Our Booklastic Book Clubs will be held on Tuesday, April 27, through Zoom. K through 2nd Graders meet at 11:30 a.m. and 3rd through 5th graders meet at 12:30 p.m. Register to get your Zoom link by calling Tabb at 757-890-5110 or Yorktown at 757-890-3236, or by visiting our Online Event Calendar.

But wait there's more! April is National Poetry Month, so our teen and tween homeschoolers can stop by the library during the week of April 19 to find their to-go packs in the Young Adult section! The packs contain everything you need to create your own blackout poetry. To learn more about this program, check out tomorrow's Teen Tuesdays post. And don't forget that we will also be offering a teen and tween activity kit while supplies last. April's kit will challenge you to reuse egg cartons, boxes and more to create art.

TBR Recap: Books adapted for the screen

The Princess Bride book cover The Tabb Book Readers (TBR) met on Saturday, July 20, to discuss the books they read for July's theme: Books adapted for the big or small screens (or have adaptations in the works). Whether made into movies or shows for television or streaming services, the group had fun discussing these titles and some of the adaptations.

TBR Recap: Memoirs and Autobiographies

Book cover of My Life in France by Julia Child The intrepid Tabb Book Readers (TBR) met on Saturday, June 15, to discuss the books they read for June's theme: Memoirs/Autobiography. Memoirs and autobiographies aim to share the experiences of an individual, which can reveal that our experiences are often universal. Written by the subject of the title, memoirs focus on a slice of an individual's life, while autobiographies tend to take a longer view.
