Posted to Off the Beaten Shelf on July 6, 2021 at 10:19 AM by Elizabeth Land

The Middle and High School Summer Reading theme is Tails and Tales. The program runs July 6-Aug. 13.

Summer Reading starts TODAY! If you are registered on Beanstack, you can now start logging your reading. If you're not registered, visit our Reading Challenges website to register. The goal for our middle and high school readers is 15 hours. Start logging today so you can earn prizes!

Each week of Summer Reading has a theme that the available craft kits, programs, and booklists are centered around. Here are the weekly themes:

  • Week 1—Bookish Beasts: Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes
  • Week 2—The Wild Side: Safari
  • Week 3—Dr. Doolittle and Friends: Pets and Strays
  • Week 4—No Place Like Home: Backyard Habitats
  • Week 5—Read, Connect, Protect: Endangered Species and Wildlife Conservation
  • Week 6—Amazing Creatures: Unusual Animals

To get you excited about Summer Reading and all things Tails and Tales, we've got a list of great non-fiction books featuring animals. Don't forget to register for the Teen programs, held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.!

Teen Tuesdays: Volunteer with the library

Posted to Off the Beaten Shelf on May 25, 2021 at 12:00 AM by Elizabeth Land

Middle and High Schoolers can volunteer at the library for Summer Reading 2021.

Calling all middle and high school students! If you're looking for a fun way to earn volunteer hours this summer, York County Public Library is here to help! Our teen volunteers are a huge part of our Summer Reading Program and while things may be a little different this year, we still need you.

We have two opportunities available:

Program Assistance
Our biggest need is during our middle and high school craft programs. These sessions will be held on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and at 3:30 p.m. July 8 through August 12. You will earn two volunteer hours per session. The best part about helping with these programs is that you get to participate, too!

Activity Kit Preparation
We also need your help preparing for Summer Reading. We have so many craft kits to put together, and so little time. We'll meet in the Tabb Library meeting room at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, to prepare the kits all at once (and eat pizza, too!).
