 #1 York County Parks and Recreation Skating 

This month we will have 2 sessions

Valentine's Day Glow Skate! Friday, February 14

Wear your favorite red, pink, and white outfits! We will have glow accessories for sale at both skate sessions to celebrate Valentine's Day. Elementary session is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Middle School Session is 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. The fee is $5.

Pizza Night Skate Session: Saturday, February 22

Need a date night or just need a break? Drop off your kids at our first Saturday Night Skate Session from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for $7.00. We will have skating games, concessions, and pizza for $2.00. For more information, please call the Parks and Recreation office at 890-3500.

 #2 How to Avoid Contractor Fraud and Other Scams  

Don't be a Victim

Tuesday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center of York
Tom Veazey from the Better Business Bureau will lead a lively discussion on how to recognize a potential scam, fraud, or deceptive business practice. Learn the steps you should take to avoid becoming a victim and what to do if you get scammed. This is a free program sponsored by the York-Poquoson Triad. To register, please call the Senior Center of York at 890-3444 by February 10. 

 #3 Spring Adult Softball 

Spring Adult Softball

Team registration for Men's, Co-Ed Industrial, and Co-Ed Church Leagues begins in February. Registration for returning teams begins on February 3 and new teams registration will begin February 10. Registration will close on Monday, February 24. Team registration will be accepted in person, Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office located at 5338-G George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown 23692 (in the Washington Square Shopping Center). In addition, two (2) special after-hours registration sessions will be held on Thursday, February 6, and Thursday, February 13, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Fee is $550 per team. 

 #4 Adult Tennis 

Adult Tennis

Starting March 4, Parks and Recreation will offer a 4-week group adult tennis class at Back Creek Park on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Lessons are developed for beginner and intermediate skill levels. The fee is $50 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Registration is now open through Friday, February 28. 2020 Outstanding Youth Award Scholarship Nominations Due February 19

Nominations for the 2020 awards will be accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, by Parks and Recreation.  Nominees must be residents of York County currently enrolled in grades 9-12 in a public, private, or homeschool.  A $1,000 post high school educational or vocational scholarship will be given in each of these categories:  Community Service, Compassion, Courage, and Overall Achievement. The four award recipients will be formally recognized with their families and nominators at a May 19  dinner reception in their honor and at the Board of Supervisors meeting immediately following.  In addition, the Board of Supervisors will send a letter and certificate in late April to all nominees to congratulate them on their nomination and inform them of their nominator.  Let's celebrate some of the Good News about so many of our wonderful high school aged citizens!  For program details and nomination forms, visit the Youth Commission's website at www.ycyc.info.  For questions regarding this program, please call the Parks and Recreation office at 890-3500.
