Library Director Happily Accepts George Washington Book Donation
Colonel Enrique Gaitan, Spanish Army Liaison Officer at Fort Eustis, visited the Yorktown Library on Wednesday, February 23 and presented Library Director Kevin Smith with a book to add to the shelves: George Washington and Spain: The Spanish Army Legacy in the U.S. The book tells the story of Spain’s influence on American history and Washington’s special relationship with Spain during the Revolutionary War, including the role that country played in the Battle of Yorktown. Special thanks to Colonel Gaitan and The Legacy for this donation. The Legacy is dedicated to highlighting the significance of Spain’s historical and cultural contributions to the United States.
March is a Big Month for Activities and Fun in our Parks
Starting Monday, March 1, the McReynolds Athletic Complex (MAC), located off Route 17 in the Grafton area, moves to spring/summer hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The park remains open for scheduled activities. More information about park amenities is available on the MAC’s website. Also in March . . . register for a fun and/or educational program. A Habitat is a Wonderful Place at New Quarter Park is for youth ages 6-10 who will learn about animals and where they live through fun activities and a craft. Deadline to register is March 13; the program is held March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The whole family will enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt and search for clues, take pics, and enter to win a $20 gift card. Deadline to register for this free event is March 15. Want to learn about the power of plants and their many uses? Join us for the free presentation about Plants as Medicine on March 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center of York. Register for the Great American Cleanup
We need YOU to help us keep York County clean and beautiful. Individuals, groups, and families are welcome to “team up 2 clean up” by registering to participate in next month’s Great American Cleanup. This is the nation’s largest community improvement program, which takes place each year in approximately 20,000 communities nationwide. Registration is now available on the AskHRGreen website.
