Great American Cleanup Success; We Step Into Spring with York News and Visit Yorktown

Mooretown Road Cleanup

Mooretown Road Cleanup a Success
You did it!  Today (Friday, 3/26), the Great American Cleanup came to York County’s Mooretown Road/Airport Road area.  A special thanks to York County Waste Management Center staff and the teams of volunteers that showed up to perform the cleanup. Their efforts really paid off! Just look at that pile of bags collected by local company Birthplace of America, members of the 718th (pictured) and 63rd Intelligence Squadrons of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, and the XO Family.  These dedicated neighbors truly made a difference.  Remember, you don’t have to wait for the Great American Cleanup to help beautify our community.  Consider adopting a neighborhood spot with your own group of volunteers (up to 25 people) with supplies and support available from the County: trash bags, gloves, litter pick-up tools, and safety vests can be requested in advance. For more information, visit the Waste Management Center website. A big shout-out to all the groups that are performing cleanups this weekend!

“Movies in the Parks” Returns in April
Starting Friday, April 9, this popular program returns to our park facilities for free family fun!  Beginning approximately 15 minutes after sunset, these child-friendly movies are shown on a large screen in the great outdoors. This first movie is The Croods 2: A New Age at New Quarter Park (1000 Lakeshead Drive). Concessions are available for purchase, but you can also bring your own. Also, please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. And, just a reminder, our parks return to spring/summer operating hours. The McReynolds Athletic Complex has made the switch, and our other facilities welcome longer operating hours effective April 1. For hours of operation and amenities, visit the Parks and Recreation website.

A Few More Notes for the Week…..Congratulations to the Peninsula COVID-19 Operations Center (PECOC), of which York County is a member, on its selection for the Governor’s EMS Award for Innovation Excellence in EMS. The PECOC was established in early 2020 to help manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Peninsula.  The Clerk of Circuit Court’s office is extending its Friday operations an additional four hours, bringing the office’s hours to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Business is conducted by appointment only, so please visit the Clerk of Circuit Court’s website for details.  Some citizens had difficulty accessing the proposed FY22 Budget online. Please try the link again to view all the documents including presentation slides.  The Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds those with septic tanks/pumping chambers that these need to be inspected at least once every five years with receipts forwarded to DPW for recording.  For more information, visit the DPW website.
