Senior Center Ends Successful Run as COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic; Sounds of Summer Returns June 3; Still Time to Register Your Child for Summer Programs Senior Center COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Closing May 26 Since opening as a COVID-19 vaccination clinic the end of January, the Senior Center has provided 10,000 doses to citizens. The last shots, Moderna vaccine second doses, will be administered Wednesday, May 26. As the vaccine supply becomes more available in pharmacies, doctor’s offices, and pop-up clinics, the demand for this location has diminished. A big thanks to the Peninsula Health Department, the volunteers, and the Senior Center and County staff that worked so hard to vaccinate so many in our neighborhood clinic and to reach this milestone. To find vaccine availability and locations, please visit the CDC’s vaccine site. Congratulations to York County’s Outstanding Youth At the May 18th Board of Supervisors meeting, five York County students received this year’s scholarship award and recognition from Chairman Chad Green and the Board. In addition to the 2021 winners in the four categories – Courage, Compassion, Community Service, and Overall Achievement – a special award was presented for Engagement in Local Government. See all the award winners, along with highlights of their accomplishments, here. Watch this and all of the Board of Supervisors meetings live on WYCG-TV and on demand.

Live Outdoor Concerts Return to Riverwalk Landing June 3! Nothing says summer like concerts at the Yorktown waterfront! We’re thrilled to announce the return of the Sounds of Summer series kicking off Thursday, June 3 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. with The Tidewater Drive Band. Families of all ages are invited to bring their blankets and chairs and grab a seat near the Riverwalk Landing Performance stage for a night of fun. Performances will take place through August 12 (with the exception of July 1) as a way to bring the community together for free outdoor entertainment. Arrive early to grab dinner at any of Historic Yorktown's amazing restaurants. Water Street Grille will also be set up near the venue with several to-go options. Under new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks, although individuals who are not yet vaccinated are still strongly encouraged to do so. Anyone displaying COVID-19 symptoms, or who has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus within 14 days, is not permitted to enter. Hand sanitizer stations will be available in multiple locations throughout the venue and there will be routine cleaning and disinfection in high contact/traffic areas throughout the event. For complete details including this year’s lineup of great bands, read this week’s press release.
