Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 7 as Yorktown joins more than 350 other farmers markets across the state—and nearly 10,000 across the country—to celebrate National Farmers Market Week. Every summer, the first full week in August is reserved for this very special recognition. It’s a time we always look forward to as we introduce you to some of our local farmers, bakers, chefs, and food entrepreneurs through features posted to our Yorktown Market Days Facebook page leading up to the event.
This year, the Fifes and Drums of York Town will play celebratory music on the Riverwalk Landing Performance Stage at 10 a.m. and children who shop the market will receive special “Love My Market” temporary tattoos, while supplies last. Families are also encouraged to stop by the York County Information Tent to learn more about how to enter a market coloring contest sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s.
We encourage the community to shop the market year-round but especially on this date! Fruits and vegetables from our local farms are the ripest they’ve been all season and they are just waiting to be incorporated into your family’s next meal. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors and to support these small businesses. We’ll have farmers selling seasonal produce, beef, pork, and eggs. Shop for artisan breads, baked goods, homemade potato chips, raw juices, nitro brew coffee, teas, scratch made pies, local honey, jams, and even some international favorites from Lebanon and the Caribbean Islands.
Help spread the word and we’ll….. Meet You At the Market!
