Groundbreaking at the new Sheriff's Office Site; Vintage Market at the MAC; Veterans Day at York Hall


Law Enforcement Building Groundbreaking is November 16

The public is invited to join County officials, Sheriff Danny Diggs and other dignitaries at the groundbreaking for the York County Law Enforcement Building – future home of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.  The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, at 103 Service Drive (just behind our Public Works complex).  When completed, the 50,000 square-foot building will include a community room along with offices and training space for the Sheriff’s Office.

Shop for Antiques, Collectibles and Upcycled Items Tomorrow at the MAC
You don’t want to miss the County’s annual Vintage Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow (11/6) at the McReynolds Athletic Complex (412 Sports Way, off Route 17). If you like restored old furniture, shopping for vintage clothing and jewelry, or filling your home with one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces, then this is the event for you!  It’s also a great place to find unique gifts for friends and family.  To add to the fun, Phil Poteat will be performing and local food vendors will line up with a variety of tasty treats.  The Yorktown Trolley makes regular stops from the parking areas to the market site. Veteran's Day

York County Observes Veterans Day
The York County Historical Committee is holding its annual commemorative program at 12 p.m. on Thursday (11/11) in York Hall, 301 Main Street.  “Letters and Portraits from War” is the theme of this event that features photos and letters during wartime deployment from local military members to their families and loved ones back home.  This program is being recorded and replayed on WYCG-TV (Cox 46, Verizon 38) along with other special Veterans Day programming airing this month.  For complete details, please see this week’s press release.   York County Offices, Courts, Social Services, and the Libraries are closed Thursday in observance of Veterans Day.  Garbage and recycling collections are not affected by the holiday. 

COVID-19 Eviction Program Funding Available
Funding is still available in the Williamsburg Health Foundation’s grant program to assist eligible residents of York County, Williamsburg, and James City County in rent payments to avoid eviction.  Individuals who are requesting assistance are advised to first seek help through the state’s Rent Relief Program.  After receiving assistance from the state, individuals may apply and receive funds after meeting certain eligibility requirements.  For complete details, visit the COVID-19 Eviction Prevention Program website or call (757) 890-3885. 
 
Additional Notes for the Week…..The County’s final Household Chemical/Computer Recycling & Shredding Event for 2021 is 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, November 13. Bring your items – and personal papers to shred! – to this collection event at Public Works, 105 Service Drive (off Goodwin Neck Road).  Complete details are available on the Waste Management Center’s website.  While you’re online, don’t forget to learn more about the upcoming Leaf Collection Program beginning November 15. Leaves should be in clear bags and placed at the roadside according to the collection schedule.
