On Alert for Severe Weather and Upcoming February Activities

Winter Weather Updates

York County’s Weather Alert Center Activated During Severe Storm Threats

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for York County and the region from 10 p.m. tonight (1/28) until 4 p.m. tomorrow.  Potential accumulation and impact for the area are unknown at this time as the storm has been difficult to predict.  Citizens will find helpful information posted on the York County website homepage Alert Center, including facility closings, program cancellations, helpful links to regional resources, and more.  In addition, updates are posted on the County’s Facebook page as they are received.  The Alert Center is activated when severe weather threatens.

January Winter Market Canceled for Visitor Safety
The predicted storm has caused Visit Yorktown to cancel tomorrow’s first Winter Market. Although Market Days are moved to the lower level of the parking terrace when it rains, the weather forecast is for wintry conditions that will likely make travel difficult.  The next event is the Valentine’s Market on February 12. Shoppers will find fresh produce, desserts, and baked goods, along with original artwork – perfect for your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day.  Following the Valentine’s Market, the other scheduled dates are February 26 and March 12. Market information is available on the Visit Yorktown website

Register Now for the Great American Cleanup
In the past couple of years, litter has increased across all Hampton Roads communities. The presence of discarded masks and gloves as well as to-go/takeout food containers has added to the problem.  Here’s a chance to help by participating in the Great American Clean Up – March 25 and 26.  Volunteers are provided trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and litter collection tools to help make participation a breeze.  Who should partner?  Anyone!...watershed restoration groups, military commands, neighborhood associations, schools and universities, corporations and small businesses, faith communities, families and individuals.  More information is available on the Waste Management website.  So, get ready to clean up America!
