Historic Yorktown Comes Alive with the
Return of its Weekly Farmers Markets, Pirate Invasion Weekend & Art at the River Juried Art Show!

Spring is here and with the warmer temperatures, Yorktown comes alive with living history demonstrations, award-winning farmers markets, and pirates looking for treasure! This is just a small sampling of some of the events taking place in Yorktown this spring. Featured Spring Events

April 2

The Victory Family YMCA hosts its annual Victory at Yorktown 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Family Fun Run beginning at 8 a.m. The scenic races begin at Riverwalk Landing and take participants past historic landmarks such as the Yorktown Victory Monument, Cornwallis’ Cave, and Surrender Field. All registration proceeds go to the Victory Family YMCA to strengthen the community and keep families healthy. www.victoryatyorktown.com

Yorktown Market Days

April 9

Yorktown Market Days kicks off its regular season with weekly farmers markets on Saturdays. Enjoy spectacular views of the York River, live music, food trucks, and a fantastic variety of vendors and artists at Riverwalk Landing. The Go Green Market, in recognition of Earth Day, runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and is a collaboration with York County’s Department of Public Works and the York County Beautification Committee.  Free family activities and educational exhibits help promote environmental sustainability. A limited supply of reusable shopping bags will be handed out as giveaways, and shoppers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags for stocking up on market goods. The Fifes and Drums of York Town perform at 10 a.m. followed by live entertainment from Scrapper T Duo. 

Also April 9, don’t miss the 7th Annual Tartans and Tie-Dye Celebration from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Put on your fanciest tartans and tie-dye and join Team Shenanigans and Watermen’s Museum in a celebratory mosaic of music to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society’s  Relay For Life. The event will feature regional Celtic, folk, and rock bands.
 
Hot cup of coffee, anyone? Grab your brew of choice and a tasty treat from Mobjack Bay Coffee Roasters in the circa 1726 Cole Digges House. They are the only certified business offering professional historian-guided tours through the Yorktown Battlefields and many historic buildings. Call (757) 872-3020 for more information. 
 

April 16

Sister Cities French Market: Modeled after the market in Yorktown’s sister city Port-Vendres, France, shop for French favorites from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing. Shoppers will find fresh-baked bread, croissants, and pastries; chocolates and macarons; wine; soaps; and more! Enjoy a Wine Garden featuring French wines, a silent auction, and a student exchange raffle. Call (757) 877-2933 for more information.
 
History comes alive on Saturday, April 16 – York County History Day – with activities going on throughout town. Experience Civil War living history, cannon firings, live music, and more.  Events are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with special activities occurring at the Watermen’s Museum, York Hall, Riverwalk Landing, and various buildings along Main Street.
 
The Watermen’s Museum Chili Cook-Off, and biggest annual fundraiser, kicks-off from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can sample competing chefs’ chili recipes and vote for the People’s Choice Award. Pirates Invade Yorktown

April 23 & 24

Pirates Invade Yorktown: Step back into the Golden Age of Piracy as Riverwalk Landing and the Watermen's Museum are invaded by seafaring marauders from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Explore a pirate encampment, view live blacksmith demonstrations, sing along with sea shanties, and exciting cannon demonstrations. On Saturday, April 23 – Yorktown Market Days will also take on a pirate theme and runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 

April 27

Color and beauty will be in full bloom when the Garden Club of Virginia brings Historic Garden Week to Yorktown. Historic Yorktown is headquarters for this year’s Hampton-Newport News chapter of the Garden Club of Virginia during Historic Garden Week.  On Wednesday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., tour a variety of homes, landscapes, and historic structures located in the village and learn from the experts and other horticultural enthusiasts. In honor of the event, we’ll have our first-ever, middle-of-the-week, Historic Garden Week Market.  Be sure to grab a photo with our LOVE Letters, which will be decorated by the local garden club for this special event. May 7

Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival: Sample dozens of craft beers, dig into amazing BBQ and listen as some of the best blues musicians in Hampton Roads take the stage at Riverwalk Landing including School of Rock, J.D. May 8 

Art at the River Juried Art Show: Celebrate Mother’s Day as you marvel at the unique work of local artists with the beautiful York River as the backdrop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and other creative artists will line the Riverwalk to display their work with hopes of taking home the People’s Choice Award.
