Visit Yorktown

When Old Man Winter Arrives, Women Head to Yorktown to Unwind!

Ladies, we know that in many households the bulk of the holiday planning and hosting fall on your shoulders. Now that the chaos of the season has passed, the in-laws have returned home, and the decorations have been packed away, it’s time to take a deep breath and celebrate YOU!

With its mild winters, breathtaking river views, and Southern hospitality, Historic Yorktown is the perfect place to escape for a day or a weekend of self-discovery and serenity. Here are a few suggestions to make your trip extra special, but don’t take our word for it. Come and explore the magic yourself!

Winter Scenes

Begin your visit with a delicious breakfast or lunch at one of Historic Yorktown’s newest restaurants – Coastal Thirst! With its relaxing, beach décor and prime waterfront location, you’ll immediately feel the stress of the holidays float away. It’s impossible to have a bad meal there, but if you’re wanting our recommendations, we love the Brekkie Bowl filled with breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheese, avocado mash, black beans, fresh pico de gallo, and chipotle sour cream. Accompanied with the chocolatey goodness of a Mexican Mocha, your palate will thank you. Then again, we also love the Kali Veggie Sandwich…the crepes…the Brooklyn bagels… the quesadillas…the…well, you get the picture!

Shop at one of our outdoor winter markets. Locals know that the best way to start a weekend is with a visit to Yorktown Market Days. Grab a donut and a cup of coffee and peruse the more than 40 artists and vendors that will be selling everything from fresh produce and baked goods to oil paintings and glassware at Riverwalk Landing. If you want to find a gift for someone special, be sure to stop by the Valentine’s Day Winter Market on Saturday, February 8. The fun continues on three more Saturdays with the St. Patrick’s Day Market on March 15 and the winter markets on February 22 and March 22.

Winter Events

Attend a Cabin Fever Concert at the iconic Freight Shed. This free concert series is the best kept secret in Yorktown! From bluegrass bands to Celtic musicians, you’ll be tapping your toes and clapping along during three select dates this year -- January 16, February 20, and March 20. Don’t miss your chance to shake those winter doldrums and enjoy an evening of entertainment. Seating is limited, so be sure to arrive early!

End the night with a fine dining experience at the beautiful Riverwalk Restaurant. Savor a glass of wine as you enjoy the succulent tastes and aromas of this local favorite. Whether you are in the mood for savory scallops, mouthwatering lobster fettucine, or comfort food like buttermilk fried chicken, Riverwalk Restaurant doesn’t disappoint. It’s the perfect way to end the day and reflect on your time in Historic Yorktown. After all, you deserve it!
