Explore, Shop, and Connect at Riverwalk Landing During a very special Yorktown Market Days’ Community Market, find your passion, sign up to make a difference, and enjoy a day of shopping, learning, and entertainment. On Saturday, May 17, local nonprofits will converge at Riverwalk Landing to educate the public about volunteer opportunities within the community. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors will also be able to browse for delicious baked goods, fresh-cut flowers, handmade soaps and candles, impressive artwork, and much more. The free, accessible Yorktown Trolley will be running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during this event.

History Comes Alive with Cannon Fire This Weekend Hurrah! The Continental Army has returned to Yorktown to save the day, and they are putting on quite a show! On Sunday, May 18, join us for a series of cannon demonstrations with the Lamb’s Artillery behind the Colonial National Historical Park Visitor Center. Participants will be able to meet re-enactors, learn about the weapons used during the American Revolution, and watch live cannon firings. Demonstrations take place at 12:45 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 2:45 p.m. Programs may be subject to cancellation due to weather or other circumstances.

Join the Celebration: Riverwalk Landing turns 20 We’ve got a birthday to celebrate! From Thursday, May 22, to Monday, May 26, join us for the 20th Anniversary of Riverwalk Landing. The festivities will include outdoor concerts, discounts, raffles, roving entertainment, and more. We’ll kick off the celebration — and the 2025 Sounds of Summer Concert Series — with a performance by the ever-popular BrassWind. Join us from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, as we get the party started. York County Economic & Tourism Development Wins 2025 VIRGO Award The Virginia Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (VADMO)—which supports tourism professionals and destination marketing efforts across the state—announced the winners of the 2025 VIRGO Awards during its Annual Meeting and Spring Symposium, held in early April in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

This year, Yorktown was recognized for its Independence Day Celebration in the Best Digital and/or Social Media Initiative category. York County Economic & Tourism Development (ETD) led the campaign, launching a dynamic digital marketing strategy on a modest budget. The team combined preplanned and real-time content to boost engagement both before and during the event. Creative tactics such as live streams, interactive posts, and spontaneous updates helped drive participation and generate excitement throughout the celebration.

Your Input is Needed – York County 2025 Community Survey We’re planning for the future—and your input is essential! The York County 2025 Community Survey is now live, and we’re asking all adult residents (18+) to participate. This survey is for York County residents only and will help capture opinions on the economy, mobility, community design, utilities, safety, natural environment, inclusivity, engagement, and other elements of York County’s overall livability. Your responses are confidential, and no identifying information will be shared. If you’ve already completed this year’s community survey, thank you! There's no need to respond again, but we’d appreciate your help in spreading the word. Public Information Meeting – Proposed Yorktown Freight Shed Pavilion The York County Department of Public Works and the Department of Economic and Tourism Development will hold a public information meeting at the Yorktown Freight Shed located at 331 Water Street on Wednesday, May 28, between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. about the proposed Yorktown Freight Shed Pavilion. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the design, answer questions, and receive citizen comments. The proposed structure will replace the tent structure that is currently installed behind the Freight Shed. Visual renderings will be available, and the meeting is open to the public. If you are unable to attend the public meeting or to obtain information, you may email your comments to freightshed@yorkcounty.gov by Wednesday, May 21. Please reference “Freight Shed Pavilion” in the subject line.

Do You Use the Williamsburg Library? We want to hear from YOU! York County residents who use the Williamsburg Regional Library are invited to share their input on plans for a new library facility. Join us for a public input session regarding the proposed new Williamsburg Library on May 20 from 1-3:30 p.m. This meeting will take place at the Williamsburg Fire Department, located at 440 N. Boundary Street. Your input will help shape the design and organization of the proposed facility. Can’t make it? You can also provide feedback through an online survey here (available until May 31). Additional Notes for the Week . . . Real Estate and Personal Property tax bills have been mailed and are available to view and pay online. These bills are for the first half of 2025 with payments due no later than June 25. Taxes are calculated on the new rates set by the Board of Supervisors on May 6: $0.78 per $100 of assessed valuation for Real Estate, and $4.00 per $100 of assessed valuation for Personal Property. The next CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) class offered from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is on Thursday, May 22 (6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.) at 159 Goodwin Neck Road.
