DEA National Drug Take Back Day, Shredding Event

On Saturday October 25 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Sheriff Ron Montgomery and the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, will hold a Drug Take Back event to provide citizens the opportunity to drop off expired or unneeded prescription pills, patches, and liquid medications to help prevent drug abuse or theft, and to ensure drugs are disposed of properly.  Pills, patches, vaping pens (without internal batteries), and liquid medications may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, 159 Goodwin Neck Road.  The Drug Take Back cannot accept needles or other sharp items.  This service is provided at no cost and is anonymous, no questions asked.

As an additional service to the community, the York County Beautification Committee and the Department of Public Works are providing citizens the opportunity to shred personal papers, up to five boxes of paperwork per person.  Staples and/or paperclips do not need to be removed prior to shredding.  This service is available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Also at this event, the Beautification Committee will accept plastic bags for recycling in the Trex Bench challenge.  Simply drop off your plastic bags and they will be shipped to the Trex Company.  Once we submit 1000 pounds of plastic materials, we will receive a free bench for one of our school sites!

In addition, this is a donation spot for a local food pantry.  We are accepting non-perishable canned/boxed food items to serve the needs of the hungry in our area.

Signs will be posted notifying drivers of the entrance to this event.
