September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and there’s no better time to discover all the amazing things your library card can do—books, movies, online resources, and so much more! Don’t miss out—stop by and sign up today. Already have a card? Bring a friend or family member to get theirs and share the library love! Children (ages 4-17) who sign up for their very first library card will receive an incentive prize. Find out more on the Library website.  

Fall Flavors Await at Yorktown Market Days – Sept. 13
Pumpkin season is upon us, so it’s time to stock up on a bounty of fresh produce, baked goods, and artisanal delights this Saturday, September 13, at Yorktown Market Days! The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing, and at 9 a.m., visitors can enjoy the sounds of Dead Rise as they perform acoustic hits.  

Conqueroo the Night – Sept. 18 Rhythms on the Riverwalk
Bringing the heat, Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, at our next Rhythms on the Riverwalk Concert! The band provides the perfect blend of blues and rock! Known for guitar work, soulful vocals, and a great rhythm section, this group of talented musicians brings it all to the stage. They don’t just play—they conqueroo it!

We the People: An Evening of History & Celebration at Yorktown Battlefield
Huzzah! This is your friendly reminder to register for We the People: A Yorktown Battlefield Event! Join us on Saturday, September 20, for an unforgettable evening of inspiration, education, and community at the Yorktown Battlefield as we gather for an exclusive premiere screening of acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns’s highly anticipated documentary, The American Revolution. Beginning at 3 p.m., visitors can enjoy the Revolutionary Festival. It will feature the U.S. Army Old Guard, living history exhibits, cannon demonstrations, musical entertainment, the Fifes and Drums of York Town, food trucks, and more!

Senior Safety Summit: Empowering Our Community
Join Peninsula Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) on Tuesday, October 7 (8 a.m. until 1 p.m.) for an engaging and informative Senior Safety Summit at Northside Christian Church (1300 George Washington Memorial Highway). Spend the morning learning from a dynamic lineup of speakers from across the state as they share practical tips and strategies to help seniors live safely and with confidence. In addition to these valuable presentations, attendees can connect with resource exhibitors, enjoy a complimentary grab-and-go breakfast and box lunch, and have the chance to win door prizes. Register by October 1 to secure your spot—advance registration is required, and no payments will be accepted at the door. 

Senior Safety Summit

Extension Volunteers Named Outstanding Volunteer Organization of the Year
At last month’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Virginia Cooperative Extension volunteers were honored as York County’s Outstanding Volunteer Organization of the Year! In 2024, York/Poquoson Extension volunteers contributed over 22,000 hours of service as part of the County’s 1,838 volunteers who gave a combined 66,699 hours—valued at more than $2.3 million. From 4-H Youth Development and Master Gardener Learning Gardens to environmental education and school garden programs, these volunteers enrich our community through leadership, stewardship, and hands-on learning. York County proudly recognizes their dedication and the lasting impact they make every day.
