Smoke Testing

Smoke Testing Underway in York County Neighborhoods
York County residents may notice crews conducting smoke testing in certain neighborhoods over the next two weeks, weather permitting. This work—performed by Burns & McDonnell and RJN—is part of HRSD’s “Reducing Rainwater in the Sanitary Sewer System” Program, which helps identify and prioritize needed repairs to improve system performance and reduce rainwater infiltration. Residents in the affected areas have already received notification by mail and will receive a door hanger 48 hours before testing begins in their neighborhood. Temporary signage will also be placed in and around the testing areas to alert the public that smoke testing is in progress. The smoke used is non-toxic, non-staining, and safe for people, pets, and plants. If smoke enters your property, call the number provided on your door hanger. If you are unsure of the source of the smoke, call 911. Crews will be in communication with the local fire department throughout the project. For more information, including maps of testing areas and frequently asked questions - visit HRSD’s website.
