October 27, 2025

Steep yourself in history and flavor at the Third Annual Yorktown Tea Festival, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 7, at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. This full-day celebration invites guests to discover the global story of tea—from its cultural roots to its political impact on the eve of the American Revolution. Enjoy hands-on workshops, expert talks, historical interpretations, and several opportunities to taste and treasure unique blends.

Event Schedule:

  • 9 a.m. – Meet & Greet at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
  • 9:30 a.m. – Keynote Presentation: Andrea Post, co-owner of CaryTown Teas in Richmond, explores French tea culture, blending, scenting, and the nation’s contribution to the world of tea.
  • 10:30 a.m. – Break
  • 10:45 a.m. – Breakout Session One: Half of attendees will create a custom tea blend to take home, while others meet a local beekeeper to learn the art of honey production—tea’s sweetest companion.
  • 12–1 p.m. – Lunch Break: Enjoy your own packed lunch, dine at the museum’s 1781 Café, or pre-order a boxed meal from Carrot Tree Kitchens.
  • 1 p.m. – Breakout Session Two: Participants switch activities, ensuring everyone enjoys both tea blending and the beekeeper experience.
  • 2 p.m. – Explore the Museum: Stroll through the galleries, the “Fresh Views of the American Revolution special exhibit, and outdoor living-history areas to discover how tea played a role during the American Revolution.
  • 3 p.m. – Meet “Abigail Adams:” Join one of America’s most influential women as she “spills the tea” on people she’s met, the stories she’s heard, and the scandals of her time—all while guests enjoy tea with scones and other sweet treats.

Held in partnership with the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and the Yorktown Commemoration Committee, the Yorktown Tea Festival aims to instill a sense of admiration for the history and traditions of tea and tea drinking in Virginia.

Round out your tea-filled weekend with an evening of music and merriment at the Colonial Tea Ball, held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Dance master, author, and historian John Millar will lead guests through lively 18th-century ballroom dances such as Draper’s Garden and The Queen’s Jig, accompanied by the Itinerant Band. Guests are encouraged to don period attire—or dress to impress—as they waltz through history surrounded by immersive exhibits and tea-inspired artifacts. Tickets are $25 per person, designed for ages 13 and up. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dancing begins promptly at 7 p.m.
