On Tuesday, November 6, voters will elect members of Congress, the York County Treasurer, and two proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.
The deadline to register to vote in the November 6 election—or to update your address or other registration information—is Monday, October 15. Qualified residents who will be at least 18 years of age on or before November 6 may register and vote.
A partnership between the Virginia Department of Elections and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles now allows most Virginia residents to apply to register to vote—or update their registration information—online at http://elections.virginia.gov/citizen-portal/index.html.
Voter registration applications also can be obtained and submitted at the Registrar’s Office, Yorktown Library, Tabb Library, and the Griffin-Yeates Center, and online at http://www.yorkcounty.gov/voting.
Absentee voting for the election is ongoing and is available for those who, on November 6, will be out of their precinct, unable to go to their polling place because of an illness or disability, and/or otherwise qualify to vote an absentee ballot.
The deadline to apply to vote absentee online or by mail, email, or fax is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30. The deadline to apply to vote absentee in person is 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 3. The Registrar’s Office will be open Saturday, October 27, and Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note: the law permits emergency absentee voting in a few, very limited situations until 2 p.m. on Monday, November 5. For more information about emergency absentee voting, call the Registrar’s Office at (757) 890-3440.
Any voter age 65 or older or physically disabled may request a ballot from an officer of election outside the polling place but within 150 feet of the entrance to the polling place. On November 6, persons who meet one of these qualifications and who wish to vote outside the polling place can call the Registrar’s Office at (757) 890-3440, and we will alert the polling place that a voter who wishes to vote outside the polling place will be arriving.
Unofficial election results – including York County election results – will be available on the Virginia Department of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov as they are reported after the polls close at 7 p.m. on November 6.
For additional information, please call the Registrar’s Office at (757) 890-3440 or visit us online at www.yorkcounty.gov/voting.
