Senior Center of York’s January Activities

Managing Falls, Culture Day, and More!

     A variety of educational and entertaining programs are being offered at the Senior Center of York in January. Participation is open to seniors age 55 or better and their spouses, regardless of age.  To register for these activities, sign up in person at the Senior Center or call (757) 890-3444.  NOTE: The Senior Center will be closed on January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
     Activities scheduled for January include:
 

  • January Birthday Bash – Friday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m.    
  • Craft Day – Monday, January 14, at 10 a.m. 
  •  “A Matter of Balance:  Managing Concerns about Falls” begins January 22, 2019.  This free, eight-week program will be held at the Senior Center on Tuesdays beginning January 22 and continuing through March 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. During the eight sessions, participants learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance.  This program is cosponsored by the Peninsula Agency on Aging.  To register and for more information, call the Senior Center at (757) 890-3444 by Monday, January 14.
  • “War Stories and Pizza” – Monday, January 28, from 11:390 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  “Bored Day Board Games” Tuesday, January 29, at 1 p.m.     
  • Culture Day – “African-American Culture in Yorktown” – Wednesday, January 30, at 1 p.m.
