Virginia Cooperative Extension and the York County Public Library have partnered to bring Master Gardeners to the Tabb and Yorktown Libraries this year. January and February classes were well attended and we’re excited about these upcoming sessions in the “Mastering Your Garden” series. Coming up during the spring months:
- Tools of the Trade – Saturday, March 23, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Yorktown Library: Master Gardener Phil Leatherbury shows you how to sharpen and care for your garden tools.
- Gardening in Small Spaces – Saturday, April 13, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Tabb Library: Join Master Gardener Nate Brauner to learn how intensive gardening techniques can transform your small garden into a success for all of your favorite plants.
- Planting for Pollinators – Saturday, May 11, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Yorktown Library: What can you do to help the Monarch Butterflies, Honey Bees, and other pollinators in our area? Master Gardener Nate Brauner shows you how simple choices can transform your yard or garden bed into a habitat teeming with beneficial insects.

The York-Poquoson Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale is Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the York Learning Garden, 301 Goodwin Neck Road. Annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and Yorktown Onions are available for purchase at this sale. Wagons and carts are welcome, but a holding area is provided for the safe-keeping of your selections while you shop for more. This is a popular event and the line forms early!
