23rd Annual Healthy Aging Conference is April 3

March 22, 2019

The 23rd Annual Healthy Aging Conference is Wednesday, April 3, at the King of Glory
Lutheran Church and School, 4897 Longhill Road in Williamsburg. The conference is free and goes from 7:45 a.m. (check-in and continental breakfast) and ends at 12:30 p.m. following informative presentations on healthy eating, sleep habits, and more.  Pre-registration is now open and is requested by March 26:
Keynote speaker Barbara Hamm-Lee is the Executive Director and host of Another View, a weekly call in talk show that discusses today’s issues from an African American perspective.  When asked about her perspective on aging, Barbara states, “My mother, who is 82 years old, passed her positive attitude about aging to me.  I live my life and think about aging with these two phrases – ‘growing older, never old’ and ‘no wrinkles on the soul.’ I believe as you grow older, you must stay active, continue to increase your faith, surround yourself with younger positive people and accept your limitations with grace.  Growing older is to be embraced!”
Other topics and speakers include:
  • Carol Downs, State President for AARP VA -- legislative updates
  • Dr. Richard Parisi -- “Get Your Best Night’s Sleep”
  • Julie Mitchell -- “Foods and Herbs for Health”
  • Deborah Prosek -- “The Other Herb -- Holistic Alternatives and CBD”
  • Frank Alvarado -- “Stretch Yourself to Better Health”
The conference features Chef Glen Belvin, Food Services Director from Spring Arbor of Williamsburg, who will delight your palate with a fabulous cooking demonstration and tasting.  Attendees can also browse the exhibit area and win door prizes.
The Hampton Roads Coalition of Agencies includes AARP Virginia, James City County Parks and Recreation, Olde Towne Medical Center, Peninsula Agency on Aging, Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging & Lifelong Health, Sentara Health and Prevention, and York County Parks and Recreation. This conference is made possible, in part, by Greg Garrett Realty.
