Yorktown Market Days Kicks off a Season with Even More Extended Markets

York County’s 13th annual waterfront farmers market kicks off Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing.

The Town Crier will open the market and guests can enjoy a patriotic performance by The Fifes and Drums of York Town at 9 a.m., music from Phil Poteat Live, a cooking demonstration with Carrot Tree Kitchens, food trucks, and the return of some of their favorite farms and locally-owned businesses. Shoppers will find meats and seafood; fresh-baked breads and pastries; honey, artisan chocolate, and desserts; gourmet dog treats; cut and dried flowers; various ethnic foods; and high-quality artwork.

This year’s opening market features several free family activities from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in line with the market’s educational mission “to teach the public about local agricultural heritage, and the historical role farmers and watermen have played in its evolvement over the years.”

Yorktown Feed Seed ‘N Moore & TSP Lawns & Landscapes is the proud sponsor of a seed planting activity for children ages 13 and under. The first 500 kids will be able to take home a planted seed, along with care instructions.

Virginia Cooperative Extension will also be on site to explain more about the role insect pollinators play in plant fertilization with a hands-on bumble bee craft (while supplies last).

Community partners the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Watermen’s Museum will provide living history demonstrations about the role of farming in 18th-century Virginia and the impact the Civil War had on local farmers, which corresponds with other Civil War planned activities around town that day.
Throughout the 2019 season are several themed markets with longer hours! Each has a unique theme to appeal to niche groups within the community—from fitness gurus to pet lovers.
