Volunteers Needed for
Safety Town Program

York County’s popular “Safety Town” program, a summer activity for pre-kindergartners, has a number of volunteer opportunities available for middle and high school students, and adults.  This award-winning program seeks to reduce childhood injury by teaching kindergarten age children basic safety concepts through hands-on, interactive learning experiences.

Youth and adult volunteers are needed to serve as “Leader Assistants” responsible for helping staff group leaders monitor and supervise an assigned group of ten children.  Volunteer hours are 8:30 to 11:45 a.m., Monday through Friday, according to the following schedule:

      Date                                              Location
July 8-12                                 Yorktown Middle School
July 15-19                               Yorktown Middle School
July 22-26                               Yorktown Middle School
July 29-August 2                     Waller Mill Elementary School

All “Safety Town” volunteers receive a free t-shirt and recognition at the weekly completion ceremony.  Interest volunteers must be available to attend volunteer training on Tuesday, June 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Public Safety Building, 301 Goodwin Neck Road.

Volunteers must commit to working one entire week of the program this summer.  Space is limited to 50 volunteer slots.

Volunteer applications are available online at www.yorkcounty.gov/607/volunteer.  Applications are now being accepted.
