Art at the River
On Sunday, May 5, marvel at the work of close to 40 local artists at the sixth annual Juried Art Show with the beautiful York River as the backdrop. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and other creative artists will line the Riverwalk to display their work with hopes of taking home the “People’s Choice” Award.
Judges this year will be sisters and fellow artists Gail Bruce McIntosh and Bonnie Bruce Mettler. Both graduated from York High School in the ‘60s and received their art degrees from Philadelphia art schools.
An Exhibit of Student Art from York County high schools will be on display inside the Freight Shed.
NEW this year are free interactive activities including a woodturning demonstration from the Tidewater Turners, who will be giving away wooden spinning tops to children in the crowd. The Tidewater Basketry Guild will on site weaving baskets and taking questions as they work. The Yorktown Arts Foundation will have a special art project for children ages 5 and up to make and take home.  Look for their tent at the corner of Buckner and Water Street.
Live entertainment from Sojorn starts at 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.  Hampton Roads Winery is selling tasting tickets.
This event is presented by the Art at the River Committee in conjunction with York County and the Yorktown Foundation, with support from the Williamsburg Area and York County Arts Commissions.
