Winners will receive prizes funded by a generous grant from The Arts Commission of York County. The grant also allowed the library to purchase updated materials on various aspects of photography.
The contest was open to amateur photographers in two categories: Teens (ages 13 to 17), and adults (ages 18 and up). Three winners in each category were chosen by volunteer judge Jim Pile, a professional photographer based in Yorktown, Virginia. The entries were judged on technical skill as well as the image's connection to this year's theme: Celebrate York County. The winning entries appear on the library's website at www.yorkcounty.gov/library and have been shared on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/yorkcountypubliclibrary.
Special thanks to our judge, Jim Pile, a professional magazine photographer for 35 years. Mr. Pile was Director of Photography for VistaGraphics, which publishes Coastal Virginia Magazine, along with 40 other publications. Although recently retired, Mr. Pile still shoots freelance for VistaGraphics, as well as other clients. Examples of his work can be seen on his website at www.JimPilePhotography.com
