Time is running out!  Applications are being accepted for the Master Gardener training course offered in Day or Evening classes from August through November.  The deadline to apply is August 1st.  The training cost of $160 includes a handbook and additional materials.  The two training classes are as follows: 
Day Class–Tuesday and Thursday mornings, plus 3 Saturdays from Sept. 3– Nov. 13. 
Evening Class–Wednesday evening classes, plus 3 Saturdays from Aug. 14 – Nov. 13. 
Master Gardeners are volunteers who assist their local Cooperative Extension offices in educating the public in general gardening practices as well as the appropriate use of pesticides and fertilizers.  For more information, class schedules and an application, visit or call 757-890-4940.


Sign up now for our Fall Healthy Virginia Lawns program with visits beginning in August!  This program is designed to assist York and Poquoson residents with taking care of their lawn in an economic and environmentally sound manner.  For $20, York/Poquoson Master Gardeners will visit your site, measure your yard, take a soil sample, and provide customized feedback.  To register for this program, call the Extension office at 757-890-4940 or visit to register online.

The York/Poquoson Master Gardeners “A Talk in the Garden” will be held monthly at the York Learning Garden located 301 Goodwin Neck Road (adjacent to the York County Public Safety Building).

  • July 18 at 5:30pm – Gardening for Life with Native Plants
  • August 15 at 11:30am – Children’s Activity:  Learn about Pollinators and paint a garden stepping stone to take with you.  For ages 4 and up.  Cost is $8 per child.  To register, call the Extension office at 757-890-4940.
  • September 19 at 5:30pm – proper Pruning of Crepe Myrtles


Learn what it takes to renovate and maintain your lawn!  Fall is the best season to renovate a fescue lawn. Incorporating organic matter, PH level, and seed selection are topics of the lawn renovation clinic.  All clinics are from 10am to Noon.  To register, call the Extension office at 757- 890-4940 or visit to register online.
