Our Website
When you start a new business and apply for a business license, we will list your new business name the County's Economic Development homepage. This is free publicity for you, and it allows citizens to see what new businesses have recently opened. You can also submit news stories about your company to be posted on this site.
Local Chambers of Commerce
There are five local Chambers of Commerce that serve York County. These organizations are here to serve the local business community. Each offers numerous events, activities, sponsorship, advertising, networking, and educational opportunities to its members, all of which are excellent ways to market your business. Examples include monthly business-after-hours networking events, golf tournament sponsorship opportunities, BNI business networking groups, referral groups, discount coupon programs for other Chamber members, and much more. See each Chamber website for details.
"Business loans require perfect credit"
MYTH: Only big businesses and owners with perfect credit can obtain financing.
FACT: Lenders typically look at a business owner’s personal credit score when evaluating a loan application. According to Forbes Advisor, you should have a score of at least 680 to qualify for an SBA loan or a traditional bank loan, and 630 for equipment financing or business lines of credit. Short-term financing and merchant cash advances typically have less-stringent requirements—averaging around 600 and 550, respectively.
"My business speaks for itself"
MYTH: I don't need to spend time or money on marketing and advertising.
FACT: Marketing is often the first thing small-business owners cut when times get tough. Sadly, this can be a costly mistake. Even businesses with a long history and proven track record need to make proactive efforts to spread the word to past and potential customers that they are open and have something valuable to offer.
"Networking Is Self Centered"
MYTH: Networking is all about what others can do for me and my business.
FACT: The most effective way to network and promote a positive image of your business is to make it all about others. Develop a reputation for being generous and making connections for others, and they'll be more likely to reciprocate.

Everyone likes to know they're appreciated. Your customers are no different. Reward your repeat clients with a special discount to show them some love. Better yet, create a loyalty program to encourage even more future visits.
Reward repeat customers with special discounts or offers not available to the general public or create an ongoing loyalty program.
