Reviewer: Blain H.
Rating: 5 Stars

Lord of the Flies coverLord of the Flies is a novel about a group of young boys who get stranded on a remote, deserted island. After realizing that there are “no grownups!”, a boy named Ralph appoints himself as leader. He finds a conch shell and blows into it, and it makes a loud, powerful sound that draws the rest of the boys to him. When they all get to Ralph, he announces that he is leader. Up on the “stage” with him is his friend Piggy, who he met shortly after arriving on the island. As more and more boys gather around Ralph, we also meet a boy named Jack who is in charge of a group of choir boys also stranded on the island. Another boy on the island’s name is Simon, and he may seem insignificant when he is first introduced, but he will play a big role in the book later.

Title: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbuy
Reviewer: Raafat S.
Star Rating: 5 stars

Fahrenheit 451 CoverFahrenheit 451 is a book set in a future American society, the year 2053 to be exact, where books are outlawed and if any are found “firemen” will burn them. However, unlike the firefighters we have today, these “firemen” start the fire. We follow a third-generation “fireman” by the name of Guy Montag. In the beginning of the story we learn that Guy is very proud of his job, but this all changes when he meets a young woman named Clarisse McClellan who asks Guy all these questions that no other fireman would answer. Some of the questions she asked were: Why do you do it? How long have you been a fireman? She just wanted to learn, which was something that wasn’t very common for people to do in the novel. Her questioning also caused Guy to realize that thinking is always an option and he shouldn’t be against the idea.
