[ARCHIVED] Favorite Features in the Libby App

Learn to customize features in OverDrive's Libby app

Have you tried OverDrive's Libby app yet? Libby is filled with shelves of ebooks and audiobooks provided by your Library. Libby has many friendly features to customize your reading and listening. Here a some of our favorite features:

  • Automatic returns
Your book will return itself after the lending period, so nothing to keep track of and no late fees. However, if you finish a title early, please return it before its due date so the next person waiting can check it out.
  • Deliver later
What happens when all your holds are available at once, and you don't have time to read them all? You can have the title delivered later. Delivering the hold later preserves your place on the holds list and passes the title to the next person in line.
  • Read with Kindle
You can read most Libby books on your Kindle ereader (in the U.S. only) with the Read With...Kindle feature. You'll be taken to Amazon's website to sign in and get your library book. The book will appear in your Kindle app and devices associated with your Amazon account.
  • Libby on your Amazon Fire tablet
You can install Libby from the Amazon Appstore on compatible Fire tablets. Libby is compatible with Fire tablets from 2020 or later, plus some earlier models.
  • Recommend a book to your library
When searching in Libby, you may run across a book that isn't available in our collection. These titles will have a Notify Me button. Tapping it will alert you if we purchase the title at a later date.
  • Change audiobook playback speed
You've got places to go and audiobooks to listen to, so you want to speed up the pace of your audiobook. Learn how to change the playback speed so it's just right for you.
  • Change text size
Having trouble reading your book on your cell phone? Then change the text size of your book in Libby by simply dragging the Text Scale slider.
  • Dyslexic font
Some people may find books using the OpenDyslexic font easier to read. There are other accessibility features you can turn on to increase readability, too.
  • Multiple library cards
You have access to multiple OverDrive library collections in the area. For example, you can add your Williamsburg Regional Library card and/or Poquoson Library card to Libby. This gives you access to even more books.
  • Check hold times
You can tap the library card icon next to a title to see if it's available and how long the wait period is at York County Public Library. If you have other library cards in Libby, you can also see if the title is available or has a shorter wait list at another library.
  • Tagging
Tags are a great way to keep track of the books you've read or those you want to read. Learn about automatic smart tags and those you can create.
  • Sleep timer
Do you drift off to sleep while listening to your audiobook? With Libby you can set a sleep timer to have the audiobook stop playing at the end of a chapter or a preset amount of time.
  • Copy to a new device
Do you usually read on your tablet, but want to read on your phone, too? Then you can use a setup code to easily copy your library cards, loans, holds, and tags to another device.
  • Dictionary
Don’t cause a foofaraw if you come across an unfamiliar word when reading. (foofaraw • \FOO-fuh-raw\ • noun. 1: a disturbance or to-do over a trifle : fuss.) Just learn how you can define words in Libby so you can keep on reading and expanding your vocabulary.
