Responsibilities
Sheri Newcomb is the Deputy Director of Community Services. Ms. Newcomb assist the Director with administrative and supervisory work o the departmental divisions in Community Services as well as oversight of a number of agencies who are responsible for the delivery of human services to York County citizens. Ms. Newcomb represents the County on various board and commissions which supports the mission of the County. Ms. Newcomb is responsible for developing, administering, and supervising child development and juvenile services provided to residents by the County to include the federally funded Head Start program.
In addition, she administers county contracts with non-profit agencies and other groups for various early childhood development programs and serves as a resource for the community on issues relating to early childhood development.
About Sheri Newcomb
Ms. Newcomb has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Christopher Newport University, a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University.
Ms. Newcomb began her career in 1992 as a Licensed Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for Colonial Hospital, followed by a position with the City of Newport News Parks, Recreation, and Tourism as a Program Supervisor over school age programs and programs for individuals with special needs. Ms. Newcomb served as the staff liaison to the Mayor's Committee on Disabilities. Ms. Newcomb also served as an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University in the Department of Human Movement Services. In 2008, Ms. Newcomb left the City of Newport News and took the position as Manager of Children and Family Services for York County and in 2017 was promoted to the position as Deputy Director of Community Services.
