4-H Virtual Forest

The 4-H Virtual Forest is an online learning experience that brings the wonders of forests, conservation, and the environment directly to youth — no matter where they live.

This interactive resource makes forestry education come alive through videos, digital lessons, and hands-on activities that teach about trees, ecosystems, and sustainable forest management. Whether you're in a bustling city or a quiet rural town, the Virtual Forest shows how forests impact our everyday lives — from the air we breathe to the materials we use.

Aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), the Virtual Forest provides meaningful, standards-based learning that supports classroom instruction while allowing youth to explore topics in forestry, ecology, and environmental science in a fun, interactive way.

Through hands-on exploration, participants will:

  • Learn to identify trees and understand forest ecology and wildlife habitats.

  • Explore how healthy forests contribute to healthy communities.

  • Discover career paths in forestry, natural resources, and environmental science.

  • Build skills in observation, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship.

The 4-H Virtual Forest is open to all youth who are curious about nature and eager to make a positive impact on the environment.
