Due to the forecasted weather, the Annual Tree Lighting on Friday, December 5,
has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
On the first Christmas event, Yorktown gave thee a Christmas tree lighting you must see.
Christmas officially begins in Historic Yorktown when the community gathers to illuminate its 20-foot artificial “Giant Everest fir.” This tradition goes back to 1945, when Reverend Claud G. Barkley, pastor of Yorktown Baptist Church, and staff from the County Clerk’s office decorated a cedar tree at the corner of Main and Ballard Streets. The York County Historical Committee works hard to keep the ritual going!
