Library Resources

Ancestry for Virginians
Offers Virginians free access to select sets of Virginia-related genealogy records hosted by Ancestry.com. Search results may include materials not part of the Library of Virginia’s collections. Users will be offered the opportunity to access these additional records through a paid subscription to Ancestry.com. Ancestry for Virginians can also be accessed through Find It Virginia. Full access to Ancestry.com is available for use inside the Tabb and Yorktown Libraries.

Ancestry Library (in-library only)
Genealogy collection includes census, vital, military and immigration records for the United States, as well as extensive Canadian and international collections from the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and Scandinavian countries.

HeritageHub
Explore your family history with the premier collection of U.S. obituaries and death notices for in-depth genealogical research from 1704 - today. HeritageHub helps you identify relatives, uncover new information and potentially unknown family members. It includes coverage from all 50 states, hard-to-find content from the mid 1900's, and original obituary images.

Heritage Quest Online
Genealogy collection includes the 1790-1940 U.S. Federal Census, Revolutionary War Era Pension Records, ProQuest’s Genealogy & Local History book collection, the Periodical Source Index Archive, Freedman’s Bank Records and LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set.

Universal Class
Universal Class offers Genealogy 101, a self-paced course presenting tips and strategies for researching your family tree. Universal Class is free with your library card.

Virginiana Collection
This collection is currently located at the Tabb Library and contains books, maps, and photographs on the history of Virginia and York County. 

Yearbook Digitization Project
Through the Library of Virginia’s Yearbook Digitization Project, you can browse yearbooks online from high schools across Virginia. The collection currently includes 1,647 yearbooks from 1912 to 1977, selected as the stopping point for copyright purposes. The York County Public Library has included Tabb and York High School yearbooks from 1958-1977.

York County Digitized Documents and Histories
This collection includes the York County 1850 census, York County Public Library history, Citizens of Hampton Roads newspaper article collection, local family histories, and more.
