Honor Guard
Responsibilities
The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety Honor Guard was formed in January 1997 as the second of the department's special teams. The Honor Guard exists to properly honor members (active and retired) of the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety that pass away. In the time since its organization, the Honor Guard has become a valuable public relations tool for York County and a goodwill ambassador for the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.The Honor Guard has represented York County and the men and women of the Department of Fire and Life Safety at fire service funerals and memorial services throughout the country, from New York City to South Carolina and across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Members of the Honor Guard have served as family escorts at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Emmittsburg, Maryland. The Honor Guard has opened many dedications, ceremonies and conventions throughout York County and the Commonwealth of Virginia by presenting the Colors.
