Our Mission
The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a statewide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. Interested Virginians become Master Naturalists through training and volunteer service.
The VCE York/Poquoson serves as the sponsoring agency to the Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists. This corps of volunteers serve lower York County and the cities of Poquoson, Newport News and Hampton, and provide over 12,000 hours of service to the Peninsula each year. Volunteers perform citizen science projects including water quality testing where they been instrumental in identifying raw sewage leaks in the local waterways in Hampton Roads.
